Weekend review and results round-up
The first truly epic weekend of global action in 2010 saw chaos for Formula 2 and the World Touring Car Championship in Marrakech, stunning racing and patriotic success in Jerez's motorcycle grands prix, and some big names get their seasons on track in America
This year's Marrakech street races are going to be remembered more for the accidents - particularly Ricardo Teixeira's F2 flip - than what little racing took place between safety cars. Wins went to Dean Stoneman, Philip Eng (F2), Gabriele Tarquini and Andy Priaulx (WTCC) amid the mayhem.
Spaniards won all three motorcycle races at Jerez, with Jorge Lorenzo's last-lap triumph over Dani Pedrosa typifying the closeness of the racing on an incredible day for the home crowd.
The Silverstone Arena circuit was christened by the GT1 World Championship and British Formula 3. The latter's James Calado had the honour of becoming the new track's first winner, while the recently-formed Sumo Power Nissan squad found itself winning the Tourist Trophy in GT1 after the two Astons ahead were penalised.
The Arena Fords were the cars to beat in the British Touring Car Championship at a sodden Brands Hatch, but the team's day was marred by Tom Chilton's exclusion from the head of what had been a one-two in race two.
In America, NASCAR's Kyle Busch and IndyCar's Scott Dixon claimed their first wins of 2010 at Richmond and Kansas respectively - Busch out-gunning Jeff Gordon at the flag, and Dixon leading a dominant run for his Ganassi team at the first oval round of the year.
