Turner/Enge win Tourist Trophy
Darren Turner and Tomas Enge claimed the historic Tourist Trophy for the Young Driver AMR Aston Martin team at Silverstone
Enge took over the lead of the second round of the FIA GT1 World Championship with five laps to go when the Hexis Aston Martin driven by Thomas Accary took a drive-through penalty for a pitstop infringement.
Enge had looked odds on to take the lead straight after the pitstops and was shaping up to make a pass for the lead when he received news of the leader's penalty.
Turner, who had to give up victory in the 2005 Tourist Trophy courtesy of Aston Martin team orders, said: "I was close to winning this in 2005, so it is great to come back and do it. Tomas and I made mistakes yesterday [in the qualifying race], so it is great to turn it around and claim the victory."
Such was the advantage of the Aston Martin DBR9 around the new Silverstone 'Arena' circuit that Accary and team mate Frederic Makowiecki were able to hang on to second place.
Best of the rest, the Sumo Power GT Nissan driven by Warren Hughes and Jamie Campbell Walter, finished 13 seconds behind in third place.
Fifth place went to the to the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Murcielago driven by Jos Menten and Frank Kechle. GT1 newcomer Kechle held off the advances of Bert Longin in the best of the Hegersport Maseratis driven by Bert Longin in the closing stages.
