Spengler prepares to 'fight hard'

Bruno Spengler is preparing for a tough fight with Audi during Sunday's DTM race at the Nurburgring

The Canadian was the top Mercedes runner in qualifying, but he will only start fourth on the grid as Audi locked out the top three places.

Spengler made it clear after the last race that he was not happy with the aggressive tactics of some of Audi's drivers at Zandvoort, but he has said that he will not take a cautious approach if he is battling them for position this weekend.

"I will not do anything stupid, but I don't think I can afford to be too cautious, that can be just as bad," Spengler told autosport.com.

"Our car is very good on long runs, so I'm sure the race will be a tough battle. The main thing for me will be to stay out of trouble at the start."

Spengler is currently 12 points adrift of championship leader Mattias Ekstrom with three races remaining, but he has a chance to make up ground on the Swede tomorrow, as Ekstrom will start 10th on the grid.

However, Martin Tomczyk, who is four points ahead of the Mercedes driver, will start from pole position, and he will be backed up by Timo Scheider and Tom Kristensen.

"I am sure they will fight hard, but I will also fight hard," said Spengler. "I just hope that we have a fair race though, not like it was at Zandvoort."
