Kristensen: Audi focused on own race

Tom Kristensen has said that Audi are concentrating on scoring the best possible result for themselves at the Nurburgring, rather than worrying about the Mercedes cars behind them

The Dane will start third on the grid behind the Audis of Martin Tomczyk and Timo Scheider, but the lead Mercedes of Bruno Spengler will start alongside him on the second row.

Spengler has admitted that he is expecting a tough race as Audi aim to strengthen their championship position, but Kristensen has said that he will not be paying any special attention to the cars behind him.

"Our plan, like always, is to get the best result for ourselves," Kristensen told autosport.com. "We are looking forwards, not backwards.

"Mercedes seem fast on the long runs, so I'm sure it will be a close race, but it should be a fair one. If people are fair with me, then I will act in the same way with them."

The 40-year-old added that he was keen to make up for the last race at Zandvoort, where he dropped out of contention after a first lap collision with Spengler and Paul di Resta.

"My race at Zandvoort was effectively over at the first corner, so I just had to try to salvage something there," he added.

"So this time I want to push hard to get a good result. Our car is strong here, so tomorrow we will see what the situation is."
