Ferrari Test New Engine as Schumacher Hopes for Luck

Ferrari resumed testing a couple of days ago, with Michael Schumacher running on Tuesday 115 laps at Fiorano, setting a best time of 1:02.248. Ferrari reported the testing to be successful, with Schumacher concentrating on suspension and tyres research program, as well as eight practice starts.

Yesterday, Schumacher moved to the Mugello circuit, where he carried out mainly setup and engine testing ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. Schumacher did a total of 69 laps with a best time of 1:27.337.

"Today we tried a new engine which has more power," Schumacher said. "We are working very hard in all areas: aerodynamics, engine and chassis. Obviously we cannot be happy at having lost a 24 point advantage, but we are only 2 points down and there is still every chance of winning the championship. We know how important that would be for Ferrari and all its fans, after a gap of twenty one years.

"We are doing our utmost, but we are all human and we all have our limits. I am German and even if this is an aspect I am criticised for sometimes, I consider it a strong point because I never give up. In fact, Budapest was a good race, because I finally managed to pick up some points. I hope I have better luck at Spa."

In the mean time at Fiorano, Ferrari's test driver was carrying out development work of new components for the F1-2000. Badoer ran a total of 107 laps, with a best time of 1:01.620. Badoer too ran practice starts during the day.

Today, Thursday, Badoer will continue testing at Fiorano while Rubens Barrichello will be testing at Mugello.
