McNish to lead Toyota charge?
Sportscar star Allan McNish may get a chance to race in F1 - nearly ten years after his first opportunity to do so, according to a story in AUTOSPORT magazine
The 1998 Le Mans winner has been enlisted by Toyota to test a version of the GTOne racer the Scot drove at Le Mans in 1999, fitted with development F1 parts.
It is also believed the current Audi driver will test the team's first F1 chassis and engine when it appears later this year.
McNish had until recently tested an F1 car every year since 1989. He has been test driver for Lola, McLaren and Benetton in F1.
However, the chance to race has never arisen - until now.
It is believed that McNish has an option to race the Toyota upon the Japanese marque's entry into F1 in 2002.
"I have spoken to them, because I know they're doing F1," said McNish.
"It's not something I know much about. I drove the car a while ago because they needed someone, but there's nothing beyond that at the moment."
