WilliamsF1 capitalises on FIA decision

Williams BMW has made the most of David Coulthard's exclusion from the Brazilian Grand Prix, as both drivers have now opened their points account for 2000

The team enters the European season with the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix hoping to build on its promising start to the year.

The team is joint third in the constructors' standings, and Ralf Schumacher is joint third in the drivers' table.

Jenson Button is the youngest driver in the history of F1 to score a championship point, since he was elevated to sixth in the Brazilian GP classification after Coulthard's disqualification.

"Our recent performances in Australia and Brazil have helped to take our team spirit to even higher levels," said BMW motorsport director Dr Mario Theissen.

"We have completed more race miles than any other team and out of four possible finishes, we have recorded three."

In addition, the team and its engine manufacturer believe they have found the solution to the engine failures that occurred in Melbourne and Brazil practice.

"After having analysed Jenson's Melbourne car, we have established a link between his engine failure and the one that we experienced during free practice in Sao Paulo," claimed Theissen.

"Over the past ten days, we have put a great effort into pinpointing this problem and we hope to avoid a repeat in San Marino," he continued.
