Tomczyk wins at the Nurburgring

Martin Tomczyk boosted his DTM title chances with his second win of the season at the Nurburgring on Sunday

The Audi driver came under very little threat throughout the race, as he maintained a comfortable gap over Bruno Spengler, who finished second for Mercedes.

The Canadian passed Tom Kristensen early in the race, and he got ahead Timo Scheider during the pit stops, but he was unable to make any progress on Tomczyk.

Mattias Ekstrom salvaged a podium finish from 10th on the grid thanks to his strategy of making his pit stops late in the race, and he holds on to the lead of the championship ahead of Tomczyk by four points.

Scheider eventually finished fourth, after he sacrificed what would have been his maiden DTM podium to let Ekstrom through in the closing stages.

Jamie Green finished fifth for Mercedes, but the British driver had been fourth until he was held up behind Scheider, which allowed Ekstrom to close on the pair and find a way through.

Paul di Resta was the only driver of an older car to get into the points, as the reigning F3 Euro Series champion came home sixth ahead of a fierce battle between Bernd Schneider and Tom Kristensen.
