Le Mans returns to calendar for 2008

The DTM will return to Le Mans in 2008 as the series has confirmed its calendar for next year

All of the events from 2007 remain on the schedule, meaning that the series will have 11 rounds next year.

The inaugural Le Mans race in 2006 attracted a large crowd, which meant that it was expected to make a return to the calendar.

Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of DTM's rights holder and promoter, ITR, said: "Following DTM's very successful Le Mans debut in 2006, that attracted a crowd of 35,000 spectators, we look forward to returning to Le Mans in 2008."

Other significant changes include moving the Brands Hatch round to a weekend where there is not a Formula One race, in a bid to increase the attendance for the British track.

Mugello has also been moved in a bid to attract more fans. The 2007 race was held in July, when people were more likely to take advantage of the summer weather rather than go to a racetrack.

Aufrect added: "With eleven rounds held in six countries, DTM is now represented on all European core markets of the car manufacturers and features the arguably most attractive calendar of all time."
