Spengler pleased to get first points

Bruno Spengler was relieved to get his championship challenge underway with his first points of the season at Lausitz on Sunday

The Canadian finished third after starting from pole, and despite having the speed to win the race, he was happy to finally have some points on the board.

Spengler had lost a third place at Hockenheim when he was penalised by officials after the race, and at Oschersleben he had retired with power steering problems.

"To get a podium after two black races with bad luck is good for me," the Mercedes driver told autosport.com.

"We have some points, and it could have been much worse with how the race went."

Spengler feels that the competitiveness of the DTM field this year means that even a small amount of points can be vital later in the season.

"Six points are a lot this year because the field is so close," he said. "It's good that we have some points, and we are not far off."

Spengler's HWA-Mercedes team lost their appeal against his Hockenheim penalty last week, but he admitted that he had already forgotten about the events from the season-opener.

"Hockenheim was one month ago, so I already had it in my head that we did not have the points," he said.

"It would have been really nice to get them, and I don't think the decision was right, but I have forgotten about it."

Spengler is currently 14 points adrift of championship leader Paul di Resta with seven rounds remaining.
