Watt switches to Volvo
Former Formula 3000 star Jason Watt will race a Volvo S60 in this year's Danish Touring Car Championship, after Peugeot Denmark cut the budget available to Watt and his former team-mate Jan Magnussen
Watt - who continued to race despite being paralysed in a motorbike crash in 1999 - and Magnussen are two of Denmark's biggest motorsport stars, and their presence in the domestic touring car series was a major boost for the championship.
They had driven for Peugeot for several years, with Watt winning the 2002 title for the team and also enjoying a limited European Touring Car Championship programme last year, but a change in personnel at the head of the manufacturer's Danish importer resulted in that relationship ending.
"Jan and I are two of the few paid drivers in Denmark, but this year I would have had to bring money to Peugeot," said Watt.
He has found an alternative drive with Volvo Motorsport Denmark, who will run an ex-ETCC Volvo S60 in the Danish series. Volvo Sweden has continued to develop the car even after the manufacturer withdrew from the ETCC and will provide the latest specification equipment to Watt's team in 2005.
