Oreca sign French duo

Jean Marc Gounon and Stephane Ortelli have been signed by Oreca to race the team's Audi R8 at Le Mans in the famous 24-hour race, the team announced today. The team has also taken out an entry at the Spa 1000 km race in April.

"My first criteria was experience," team president Hugues de Chaunac stated at the announcement. "Both Jean Marc and Stephane have competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times, and they compliment each other." The team has not yet decided on a third driver, but will make an announcement before the ALMS season kicks off at Sebring.

Both drivers are looking forward to the drive, with Gounon stating: "I am very pleased to be back with the Oreca team, with whom I won the French Formula 3 championship in 1989, as well as competing in Supertouring in 1994." Ortelli noted: "I am extremely motivated to return to the team [they won the Criterium Production in 1995] - it is much better to be with them than against them!"

Ortelli won the French classic in 1998 and placed second in 2000 in an R8; Gounon came second in 1997.
