France wins Indonesian sprint race

France swept to an 11th A1 Grand Prix of Nations victory in today's sprint race at Sentul in Indonesia

Nicolas Lapierre, who had qualified second, dived down the inside of pole man Robbie Kerr into the first corner of the second lap. The Frenchman made the move stick and was quickly able to pull away from the Team GBR driver on the way to a seven-second victory.

Lapierrre said: "We worked hard on the car in the warm-up and we knew we had to take advantage early on. I pushed hard at the beginning and was able to overtake Robbie.

"I had a good balance to the end and my life was made a little bit easier because Robbie had to defend his position."

Kerr had his mirrors full of Team Mexico's Salvador Duran for the remainder of the race, but his fifth second place of the A1 GP season was never under threat.

Malaysia's Alex Yoong claimed his best result of the season with fourth after moving past Neel Jani's Swiss entry on lap nine. Jani, who had briefly challenged Lapierre for second at the start, ended up fifth.

Sixth place went to Ireland's Ralph Firman, who finished just seven tenths ahead of Jos Verstappen after another storming race from the Dutchman. Kiwi Matt Halliday ended up eighth.
