Farfus surprised by home victory
Augusto Farfus has admitted that he was not expecting to challenge for victory during his first weekend as a BMW driver
The 23-year-old won Sunday's second race at Curitiba to put himself level with Andy Priaulx and Jorg Muller at the top of the World Touring Car Championship standings.
"This was a great start for us," said the Brazilian. "My goal was to score points during my first race appearance with BMW, so this is unbelievable."
Farfus is also confident that there is more to come from him during the rest of the season, as he was still learning the car throughout the weekend.
"We did a lot of testing over the winter, but what you can't simulate is a proper race situation," he said.
"It was important for me to get to know the car in race conditions, and I keep on learning more about the car."
Farfus had started his season with a third place finish behind Muller and Priaulx, and he won the second race from sixth on the grid at his home track.
"The enthusiastic support of the Brazilian fans really gave me a push," he said. "You don't see a La Ola wave before the start of a WTCC race too often."
