Weekend review and results round-up

Indianapolis 500 qualifying provided huge drama all weekend, with Helio Castroneves coming out on top, Alex Tagliani and Bruno Junqueira starring, Tony Kanaan and Takuma Sato only just making it into the field - and Paul Tracy missing the cut

Elsewhere, title battles are starting to take shape, particularly in MotoGP, where Jorge Lorenzo's second straight win edged him clear of Valentino Rossi, and Casey Stoner's Le Mans crash dropped him even further behind.

Across France at Magny-Cours, Oli Webb moved ahead of pre-season favourite Jean-Eric Vergne in the British Formula 3 title battle thanks to two wins from the three races on the Superleague Formula bill - where AC Milan's Yelmer Buurman was the man to beat in the main event.

Monza saw great success for Jolyon Palmer in Formula 2, and last lap tyre drama decide both World Touring Car Championship races, with Andy Priaulx and Yvan Muller the beneficiaries.

Romain Grosjean and Thomas Mutsch put Matech Ford back on top in the GT1 World Championship at Brno, and at Valencia, former champion Mattias Ekstrom was top dog in the DTM as Kevin - son of Jan - Magnussen made a winning debut in the Formula 3 Euro Series.
