Jordan: What a Difference a Week Makes

The Jordan team were left with nothing to celebrate after a disappointing San Marino Grand Prix, where both their drivers retired with mechanical problems.

Just over a week after celebrating his victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Italian Giancarlo Fisichella lived a very different race, starting from 17th position and going out with an engine failure when running out of the points five laps from the end.

British teammate Ralph Firman had another torrid Grand Prix, his car almost stalling at the start of the race. The rookie also failed to finish due to an engine problem.

"We first knew Ralph had a problem when he reported the clutch slipping, which we later discovered was caused by an engine problem which soon afterwards caused him stop," said director of engineering Gary Anderson.

"On Giancarlo's car something went wrong with the engine, there was a lot of smoke. We had a hydraulic problem as well but it stabilised and would have been okay for the last ten laps.

"When you're not in good condition it's best just to learn as much as you can about reliability. They say what a difference a day makes â€" well what a difference a week makes!"
