Hakkinen on Top Again at Valencia - Final Day

McLaren's Mika Hakkinen was quickest for the second consecutive day of testing at the Valencia circuit, in eastern Spain, as the teams concluded the three-day session at the twisty track.

McLaren's Mika Hakkinen was quickest for the second consecutive day of testing at the Valencia circuit, in eastern Spain, as the teams concluded the three-day session at the twisty track.

Hakkinen was more than half a second faster than Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who impressed once more at the wheel of the Williams-BMW, the rookie being the quickest of the Michelin users, almost a second ahead of teammate Ralf Schumacher, who was fourth.

The day started again with a damp circuit, forcing the cars to run intermediate tyres during the morning, though it dried up and allowed the drivers to set the fastest times of the three days.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella was third fastest for Benetton despite running off the track twice at the same part of the track.

Jos Verstappen was still behind the wheel of the Arrows A21 prototype, completing 108 laps and setting the fifth fastest time in front of McLaren's test driver Alex Wurz, the slowest of the Bridgestone runners after suffering an engine problem.

Eddie Irvine was only seventh quickest with the Jaguar R1B after crashing during the morning session with the R2, which was damaged and sent back to the team's base. Due to lack of cars, teammate Luciano Burti was unable to test today.

Jenson Button was the slowest of the Benetton drivers for the third day in a row, lapping more than a second slower than teammate Fisichella and only faster than Williams' test driver Marc Gene.
