Ferrari Take Day Off Testing Following Badoer's Shunt

Ferrari said this evening that they will not be testing tomorrow, following Luca Badoer's heavy accident today at the Barcelona circuit.

The team said they will resume testing on Tuesday, when Michael Schumacher is scheduled to take over the testing duties for the first time in 2001.

Ferrari also released a statement following Badoer's accident, saying:

"Luca Badoer took to the track at 10:20 this morning, to work on tyre testing and set-up. On his eleventh lap, during his second run, he lost control of the car at the end of the main straight and crashed into the safety barrier. The accident was caused by a mechanical failure.

"Assistance was immediately on hand and Badoer was taken, first to the circuit medical centre and then, by helicopter to the Catalunya General Hospital at Sant Cugat.

"An examination revealed that he had no specific injuries. However, Badoer is now resting and will spend the night in hospital, under observation. He is scheduled to return to Italy tomorrow.

"Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro will not be testing tomorrow, with the programme resuming as scheduled on Tuesday."
