Irvine: No Regrets Over Jaguar Move

Jaguar star Eddie Irvine has admitted he enjoyed his debut season with the team despite struggling during most of the year and scoring just four points.

Irvine, who fought for the drivers' title in 1999 after four wins with the Ferrari team, left the Italian outfit at the end of that year to join Jaguar, who entered Formula One after taking over the Stewart team.

"I'm enjoying it," Irvine said in an interview with Autosport. "It was more frustrating at Ferrari. When the engine was good, the car felt good but at certain places we couldn’t do the lap times. I didn't know why.

"Here there's problems I can see which we can fix."

The Ulsterman also admitted that he felt he was more influential at Jaguar than he was at Ferrari, where he spent four seasons alongside Michael Schumacher.

"Here there are a lot more problems to solve. I'm a lot more involved in that whole process than I was at Ferrari.

"There I would come in and say it's got this, this and this and they'd have all these little Indians who would run away and sort it. Here we don't have the depth or the experience so basically I spend a lot of time with [technical director] Gary [Anderson] trying to figure things out."

Irvine, who received much criticism during 2000 for his lack of performance, admitted he was not a genius, but he believes he has a good technical knowledge.

"I'm not a genius. But for a driver I've a fairly good idea of the whole picture. I've had a good education.

"I've been lucky in that at each place I've been in my career I've learned a lot."
