Schumacher confident of pole
Michael Schumacher was squarely beaten by McLaren's Mika Hakkinen in the fight for top time in Friday practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix earlier today. However, the Ferrari driver still considers that pole position could be his
The German was second quickest, but half a second behind Hakkinen.
"Pole position is possible," said the German after splitting the two McLarens. "But it is not so important here. This is a long hard race."
The Friday session, usually used for race car set up work descended into a power struggle between the two teams to see which would end up fastest. It was a battle emphatically won by Hakkinen.
Nevertheless, Schumacher remained upbeat - much as he had in Australia after having been beaten by the McLarens in qualifying.
"We are about where I expected to be," said Schumacher. "Friday is now more exciting as we are closer to our main competitors than in the past.
"I am sure we can be competitive in qualifying.
"The cars set-up is good and we know how to improve it further."
