Villeneuve and Zanardi square up
Indycar champions Jacques Villeneuve and Alex Zanardi have had an angry confrontation at the British Grand Prix
Villeneuve claims his Italian rival was not looking in his mirrors and carved him up in free practice and threatened to put Zanardi in the wall if it happens again.
The Canadian was so angry by the incident he stormed down the paddock to the Williams garage to demand an explanation.
Villeneuve claims the incident cost him 20 valuable minutes of track time because the undertray to his BAR car had to be repaired after hitting kerbs.
'If that happens again I will put him in the wall,' he said later.
Neither have had the best of seasons. Villeneuve starts the British Grand Prix ninth and is yet to finish a race for his new team while Zanardi is 13th.
The Italian laughed off the incident.
'I don't think Jacques is very proud of the way he reacted. I just came out of a corner and I saw he was angry with me. Probably I held him up.
'It was obvious I didn't do it deliberately.
What's the point of blocking someone in free practice. Just to see your name up on the screen? I've got problems bigger than that,' he added.
