Stewart looking for luck

Rubens Barrichello qualified 6th fastest but his team mate Johnny Herbert has had a horrible weekend and will start 17th. After a day of non-stop technical trouble yesterday, Herbert had a 200mph accident in morning practice on Saturday when his rear wing failed. After more mechanical problems he was visibly gutted to only qualify on row nine.

'I'm very disappointed,' he admitted. 'It's turning into a bit of a nightmare.'

Despite his misfortune, the team remain behind Herbert and have been very supportive. In return, the Englishman has promised to do his best to get a good finish in the race tomorrow.

Jackie Stewart expressed his sympathy for Johnny and praised Rubens Barrichello's effort, but warned that their chances of a high finish in the race will depend on rain or attrition.

'The chances of all the cars getting through the first lap are very slim,' he said. 'That's our best hope of making up places.'

Herbert hit the barriers at high speed in his accident, caused by a rear wing failure, but escaped with just a sprained thumb, prompting Jackie Stewart to again praise the safety of modern Formula One cars.

'A few years ago Michael Schumacher wouldn't have survived the accident he had at Silverstone,' Jackie said.

'When I was racing, motor racing was dangerous and sex was safe!'
