Spengler content with sixth

Bruno Spengler has admitted that he was quite happy with qualifying in sixth position for Sunday's DTM race at Zandvoort

The Canadian was the top Mercedes driver as Audi dominated the top of the timesheets, but Spengler believes that he can be happy with his lap because his car is 20 kilograms heavier than the 2007-specification Audis.

"20 kilograms is a lot on a track like this," said Spengler. "With this handicap, I'm quite happy to manage sixth place."

Spengler believes that Mercedes will be in better shape for the race, as he was happy with the performance of his car during longer runs in practice.

"In the long runs I was very happy with the car," he added. "I think it looks good for tomorrow.

"I was really pushing hard in qualifying to improve my time, but it was not possible. It should be a good race though if we can stay out of trouble."

Spengler added that he is still confident for the race because the race results have often not reflected the qualifying results this season.

"Everything can happen so quickly here in the DTM. If you lose one tenth you can be back in the field, so you need a little bit of luck as well as performance," he said.

"Anything can happen, and we have seen in recent races that qualifying doesn't mean much."
