Thompson: Dynamics can win title
James Thompson believes that Team Dynamics can challenge for next year's British Touring Car Championship after testing one of the team's Honda Civics at a damp Donington Park this week
Thompson, who won the BTCC title in 2002 and 2004 with Vauxhall, completed around 60 laps during the day, providing feedback on a number of tweaks on the car, and was impressed with what he saw.
"It went really well," Thompson told autosport.com. "We were expecting awful weather, snowstorms and all that, but in the end it wasn't too bad. We just had a bit of rain in the morning and in the afternoon we were even able to get a few laps in on slicks.
"I think the car is very, very good, and having just spent a day with the team you can see how professional they all are. There is definitely the potential to win the championship here."
Thompson raced an N.Technology-run Honda Accord in the World Touring Car Championship this season, but is now a contender for a seat with Dynamics after his current boss Mauro Sipsz confirmed to Autosport that it will be "very difficult" to remain in the series next season without factory backing from Honda.
"I'm hopeful that something can happen with N.Technology for us all to continue in the World Championship, I've put two years of my life into doing the groundwork," Thompson, who is still contracted to the Italian team for 2009, added.
"But if that doesn't happen then I'd like to come back to the BTCC to win, and Dynamics certainly have the potential to win."
