Audi not focused on pace at test

Audi will not be concentrating on speed at this weekend's Le Mans test as they prepare to share the track with Peugeot's 908 for the first time

The test on Sunday will be the first opportunity to compare the two diesel-powered machines, but Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich has said that the team have specific areas to concentrate on rather than laptimes.

"The laptimes are not of primary importance," he said. "It's all about making the most of the eight hours available to us.

"We need to collect as much data as possible and to find a good base set-up. Our new drivers also get the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the circuit at the wheel of the R10."

Alexandre Premat, Lucas Luhr, and Mike Rockenfeller will use the test prepare for their race debut in a third R10, while Mattias Ekstrom will also drive, so that the Swede is well-prepared if he has to stand in for Tom Kristensen.

Ullrich added that one of the key areas the team would be focusing on this year would be driver changes.

"Refuelling happens so quickly now that it is possible to lose valuable time during a slow driver change," he said. "That's why the pitstop practice is so important this year."
