Franchitti wants to race in Le Mans

Dario Franchitti is hoping that he will be able to tackle the Le Mans 24 Hours in the future with Acura, this week's Autosport reports

The Indianapolis 500 winner tasted success in the Sebring 12 hours this year in the LMP2 Acura ARX-01a with Bryan Herta and his younger brother Marino, and he has already targeted racing at Le Mans.

"Le Mans is something that would be great to do," Franchitti told Autosport. "It's a race I'd definitely like to contest in the future."

Acura are the American brand of Honda, and they have already signalled an intention to compete at Le Mans in 2008.

Franchitti admitted that he was not entirely sure of their plans to compete in the French race, he added that he is hoping that he can continue to race the prototype machine.

"I don't know what the plans are in that direction, but I hope so," he said of Acura going to Le Mans.

"I've really enjoyed driving the prototype, so we'll see what the future holds. The car is a blast."
