Winterbottom edges Ingall in race 2

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom took victory in race two of the City of Ipswich 400 at Queensland Raceway

Winterbottom took the lead from race one winner James Courtney at the start, leading the rest of the way apart from a period in the middle of the race during the compulsory pit stops.

His closest challenge came from Supercheap's Russell Ingall, who lost a position at the start, regained it on lap 3, and then gained another place during the pitstops. He kept Winterbottom in sight but never got close enough to mount a challenge.

Jamie Whincup took third position by the finish, having made steady ground before his pitstop, gaining a couple more places during the pitstop period and then passing Will Davison and Garth Tander in the closing laps, Tander and Davison coming home in fourth and fifth.

Race one winner James Courtney's race went downhill from the start, losing a place to Winterbottom. He lost another place to Tander before the lap was over, and then two more on lap three just before the safety car came out for a multi-car collision at turn three. From there he only lost one further position to finish sixth.

Seventh was a remarkable effort for Steven Richards, despite running in that position in the early laps. Having passed Mark Skaife into turn one on lap 10, as the pair exited the corner Skaife appeared to tap the rear of Richards.

Richards did a 360 and lost seven places, Skaife maintained his position while Rick Kelly was forced to retire following contact with the wall after taking avoiding action.

Richards ran long and emerged from his pit stop a couple of seconds agead of Skaife, and went on to pass Cameron McConville and Fabian Coulthard in the closing laps, Coulthard, McConville and Skaife completing the top ten.

Just outside the top ten in twelfth and fifteenth respectively were Craig Lowndes and Paul Morris, both charging through the order after starting 28th and 27th, Lowndes having replaced an engine and Morris having been penalised for his race one contact with Steven Johnson, Lowndes also getting caught up in the lap 3 collision that brought out the safety car.
