Bright wins race 1
Jason Bright continued on from where he left off in qualifying as he took the first race win at Winton Motor Raceway
Bright effectively led from start to finish as Ford Performance Racing's resurgence continues. Second was Craig Lowndes while third was Paul Dumbrell, the duo swapping places during the compulsory pit-stop sequence.
Fourth and fifth were the two Holden Racing Team cars of Todd Kelly and Mark Skaife, Kelly having to survive a mid-race scare when brother Rick exited the pits alongside of him into turn one and nearly spun into Todd. Rick lost several positions, finishing tenth, while Todd escaped with just a quick run through the grass.
This incident also saw Jason Richards suffer damage as he bounced namesake Steven Richards on the exit of turn two, bending a steering arm requiring repairs. Having run fourth at the start, a 27th place finish was definitely a disappointing result.
Another disappointed driver was Jamie Whincup. While running eighth in the early laps, Whincup was forced to pit to repair damaged bodywork. Going a lap down, Whincup showed pace equal to the leaders but finished the race in 25th position.
At the top of the championship, sixth place finisher Garth Tander has taken the lead of the championship from Russell Ingall, who finished twelfth.
