Bright on Winton pole
Ford Performance Racing's Jason Bright has taken pole position for this weekend's V8 Supercar action at Winton Motor Raceway
Bright was fastest in qualifying and backed it up in the shootout. However, it was an extremely close fight, with less than two hundredths of a second separating Bright from third on the grid, with Paul Dumbrell and Jason Richards taking second and third in the shootout.
Even the gap back to fourth-placed Craig Lowndes was small, at just over five hundredths of a second. From there the gaps began to grow, with Dumbrell's teammate Steven Richards completing the top five.
Next up are the Holden Racing Team duo of Todd Kelly and Mark Skaife, Lowndes' teammate Jamie Whincup, Rick Kelly and the second Ford Performance Racing car of Mark Winterbottom rounds out the top ten.
Failing to follow the instructions of an official saw Garth Tander lose his early times, and he will start eleventh. However, he is four places better off than points leader and reigning series champion Russell Ingall.
As bad as Tander may feel, Cameron McConville must feel worse. He missed the weigh scales, losing all times up to that point in the session. A mechanical problem meant he was unable to set a time in the remainder of the session, and will start last.
