Jason Richards wins chaotic race 2
Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards took the victory in the chaotic reverse grid race two at Winton Motor Raceway
Richards kept his head as mayhem broke out around him, taking a comfortable victory ahead of Jamie Whincup, who got a good result after his disastrous race result in race one.
Dean Canto recorded another strong result in a reverse grid race, after winning the same race at Barbagallo. Rick Kelly and Russell Ingall completed the top five, though Kelly may have been lucky to take that place.
The chaos began on lap one when Paul Radisich, Lee Holdsworth and Greg Murphy all went off in separate incidents. The next incident took place on lap three when James Courtney spun Cameron McConville as Courtney passed Max Wilson.
Initially it looked as though they would get away unscathed but then Steven Johnson and Steven Richards piled in unsighted, ending Johnson and Courtney's race and damaging Richards' bonnet.
After half-distance first race winner Jason Bright made light contact with Steven Richards, Richards spinning off. Bright got a flat tyre, but Richards resumed in front of the pack behind him, leaving Todd Kelly with nowhere to go.
Kelly suffered major front-end damage but managed to get repairs to finish the race, while Richards received a ten second stop-go penalty for his carelessness when rejoining the race.
Finally, in the closing laps the battle for third saw chaos once more. Jason Bargwanna was under heavy pressure from Warren Luff, who had cars on his tail as well. Around the back of the circuit Luff made contact with Bargwanna a couple of times, both cars running wide as they negotiated a left-hand hairpin.
As they switched back to a right-hand hairpin, Canto swept past while Rick Kelly slammed into the side of Bargwanna, sending Bargwanna off into the grass before Bargwanna returned to the pits and parked his car. Kelly escaped unscathed while Luff received a 27 second penalty.
Another unlucky driver was Will Davison who lost a wheel in pit lane. Davison, who already had damage from an earlier incident, was then excluded from the results when the team replaced the rear wheel outside his pit box in a wide pit lane.
