Stoner: win makes up for Motegi result

Casey Stoner said his home win at Phillip Island made up for the disappointment of only finishing sixth in his title-clinching race at Motegi last month

Although the Australian had been thrilled to win the MotoGP championship in his second season at motorcycle racing's top level, he was frustrated that he wrapped up the title with the worst race finish of his incredible year.

"The last race was a little bit disappointing for us," Stoner admitted.

"It was our worst result of the year, but because we managed to win the championship it was completely forgotten I think. We enjoyed that weekend in the end because Loris (Capirossi) won (the race).

"But after that weekend our goal for the rest of the season was to win this one, because we've been trying for a lot of years."

Capirossi continued his recent strong form by taking second behind Stoner in Australia. The squad's first one-two finish of 2007 secured the team and manufacturer titles for Ducati.

Stoner said that having clinched his own title, he was more focused on the team's overall result at Phillip Island than he had been earlier in the year.

"I was really hoping this morning - more than I ever have previously this season because I suppose we've always got to concentrate on our own thing and I was too stressed and pressured (over the drivers' title) in the rest of the season - but today I really, really wanted Loris to get on the podium and be able to be up front battling with us," he said.

"I managed to get away quite early which was very good for us, but Loris battled through with a few issues and problems in the beginning and came back to get on the podium.

"A great day and great weekends for us in the last two weekends."
