McRae Considers NASCAR Switch
Former World Rally Champion Colin McRae is considering making the switch to NASCAR as he eyes a return to serious competition
With his rally raid ambitions halted by Nissan's decision to pull out of long-distance competition, McRae is now targeting a NASCAR test for later this year prior to a possible debut in one of the category's road course events.
"If I go and do it, I want to go and commit to it," he told BBC Top Gear Magazine. "I think you've got to look at least a couple of years' plans."
McRae first began thinking about the NASCAR possibility when he met team boss Jim Hancock at last year's Race of Champions, and his interest was further fuelled by a visit to this year's Daytona 500.
"I'm not intimidated at all, just impressed with the scale of it," added McRae. "I'm quite interested to do it because until you do, you don't really know what it's going to be like.
"There's a huge buzz about the place and it's exciting when you're there. Quite likely, you would find the same thing when you're in the race, driving the car.
"But you don't know until you go and try it. So, really, the next stage would be to give it a go."
