Harvick was over two tenths of a second faster than the man who will start alongside him, Jeff Gordon, who won this race a year ago, for an all-Chevrolet front row. Third on the grid is Elliott Sadler in a Ford, with Scott Riggs in a Chevrolet and Ryan Newman in a Dodge completing the top five.

In a surprise, the DEI team, dominant in recent years at the superspeedways of Daytona and Talladega, will line up 32nd for Martin Truex Jr, 36th for Dale Earnhardt Jr and 38th for Michael Waltrip.
