Bourdais tips Power to shine in 2008

Sebastien Bourdais believes that Will Power will be one of the strongest drivers in Champ Car now that the Frenchman has left the series

Bourdais won four consecutive titles from 2004-2007, but as he switches to Formula One, he thinks that Power will be one of the main contenders in the future.

"All I can say is Will Power is obviously right now extremely strong," said Bourdais. "He achieves really strong (fuel) mileage and with a great pace.

"Since I won't be there, I think he might actually give a very hard time to everyone else, and I hope he's going to stay in the series."

Bourdais added that Power's qualifying speed had particularly impressed him, although he also expects some of this year's other frontrunners to be strong again.

"I think I got six or seven pole positions, and Will got five this year," he said. "So I fully expect him to be a championship contender next year.

"Then after that there are quite a few drivers. Justin (Wilson) has been up there the whole time I was here, and Robert Doornbos is obviously looking pretty good.

"Then my teammate (Graham Rahal) and a lot of others. It's hard to say, I just wish that Champ Car keeps going in the right direction and getting stronger. I think open-wheel racing in the States really needs it."
