Ammermuller to race for Germany
Michael Ammermuller will make his A1GP race debut for Team Germany at the next round of the series in Malaysia
The 21-year-old will replace Christian Vietoris, who will be testing with the BMW Sauber F1 team as part of his prize for winning the Formula BMW world final last year.
"I'm delighted to get a second chance with Team Germany," said Ammermuller, who tested with the team in 2006. "It's extra motivation to start for the defending champions.
"It's a great challenge. Even though I've never driven at this interesting circuit I want to show that I earned this seat by getting a good result in Malaysia."
Team boss Willi Weber added that Ammermuller's selection would not be a one-off, as he expects the team to need a second driver later in the season.
"I welcome Michael back to the team," he said. "We want to give him every opportunity to establish his name on the international stage.
"Christian has already started preparing for his F3 season in 2008, and this will be intensified through the winter.
"With Michael we now have another young driver in our squad who should help us beyond Malaysia."
Following his test prior to the 2006/07 season, Ammermuller was unable to race for the team due to his test role with the Red Bull F1 team.
However, the former GP2 driver had a difficult 2007 season, where he injured his hand at the first round in Bahrain, and he eventually dropped out of the series, where Formula Three racer Sebastien Buemi replaced him.
