Ducati have faster aero option

Ducati Corse CEO Claudio Domenicalli has revealed that Ducati have got some even faster aerodynamic packages potentially available if they need to increase the GP7's straightline speed even further

The Ducati has stunned MotoGP engineers and followers this season with its consistently dominant performance through the speed traps.

This straightline speed advantage has been an important role in championship leader Casey Stoner's three wins in the first five races.

This is the first time that the Ducati hierarchy have confirmed that the team has different fairings available, but Filippo Preziosi - project leader on the Ducati MotoGP bikes - said he would not be rushed into using the devices.

"I would prefer to keep the package we have at the moment so as not to upset the riders' understanding of the bike," he said.

"If it makes a small difference we may not use it, but if it's a significant amount of time we can gain, then we'll put it on."

Former Formula One engineer and designer Alan Jenkins has masterminded the aero package on the Ducati since its arrival in MotoGP in 2003. He used test rider Vittoriano Gaureschi in the wind tunnel at MIRA in the UK to fine-tune the GP7 fairing.
