Qatar extends race deal to 2016
MotoGP will race in Qatar until at least 2016, after an agreement between the QMMF and Dorna was announced this evening at Losail
The circuit has made considerable investments in recent months, including the installation of a massive lighting system - which could light 73 football pitches - and it is believed that the QMMF pays for the privilege to host the opening round of the championship, due to the extra attention that is associated with the curtain raiser.
QMMF President Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah said: "We are very proud to announce this deal, and we look forward to welcoming MotoGP to Qatar in the years to come. This is an important day for Qatar, for our federation and for the development of motorsport in our region.
"I want to thank Mr Ezpeleta for the confidence that Dorna have shown in us in extending our contract and allowing us to host the first ever night-time Grand Prix."
The first Qatar race was held in 2004, with this year's event being the first ever Grand Prix of any type to be held under floodlights.
