Pitt to test Yamaha for Michelin

2007 Ilmor MotoGP rider Andrew Pitt will ride a Yamaha M1 at Barcelona on Monday as part of Michelin's ongoing development programme

Pitt has already ridden in the World Supersport Championship this year when standing in for Sebastien Charpentier at Valencia and Assen, finishing second on a Honda CBR 600.

He had lost his MotoGP ride when the Ilmor team pulled out after just one race.

Davide Brivio of Yamaha said a very late decision was taken to fly an additional bike to Spain for the one day test.

"We have one additional bike to test some tyres," said Brivio.

"It's a Michelin thing. They hired him. For the moment it's Barcelona, but we are planning also some other testing sessions in the future.

"We will see how it goes here on Monday. We are organising the bike and the staff, and then Michelin found the rider so that we could speed up the development. At the moment it is a bit of a mix of mechanics from Japan and the FIAT Yamaha team."

Jurgen van den Goorbergh performed test riding duties for Michelin last year, going to tracks before the race weekends, but this practice has been banned in 2007.

MotoGP bikes cannot now be ridden at a track before the race weekend, unless it is part of an official test session, or it is a team's nominated test track.
