Dixon hoping for help from Wheldon
Scott Dixon has said that he hopes Ganassi teammate Dan Wheldon will help him in the battle for the IndyCar Series title this year
Wheldon has slipped out of contention for the title after starting the year in strong fashion, and Dixon is now closing in on points leader Dario Franchitti with five races remaining.
"Dan doesn't want to go out of the season not winning another race, but I know if I was in the same situation he was, I'd definitely help," said Dixon, who has won the last three races in a row.
"We've had a strange relationship, sort of up and down. But you'll have to figure it out once it comes down to it. You have to look after your team."
Dixon pointed out that he played the supporting role last year for Wheldon, particularly at Michigan, where the series heads to this weekend.
"I had to help him there, and he ended up finishing third," said the 2003 champion. "I think we had a car that was probably quicker than him, but it was a good result for him.
"I know in the previous years I've been involved with this team, you've had to help your partners, and I believe it's the right thing to do for the team."
Dixon is just 24 points behind Franchitti in the standings, with three oval races and two road course events remaining.
