Zaugg dominates Zandvoort sprint

Adrian Zaugg scored a crushing win in the opening race of the A1GP season as the sun finally shone down on Zandvoort

The South African fended off a determined charge around the outside of Turn 1 at the start by Loic Duval, but that was the closest Team France came to the lead. Zaugg's advantage was substantial and he opened up an insurmountable lead.

Duval spent most of the race defending second from Team Holland's Jeroen Bleekemolen. The Dutchman was inspired in the early stages, putting great moves on Neel Jani (Switzerland) for fourth and Salvador Duran (Mexico) for third, much to the delight of the 40,000-strong crowd.

But despite never being more than a second off Duval's gearbox, Bleekemolen couldn't find a way by.

Sixth went to Team Germany, who had a feisty Oliver Jarvis crawling all over them at the finish. A charging Jarvis passed Jonny Reid (New Zealand) and Ralph Firman (Ireland) in a great drive to seventh.

Firman held on to eighth, Reid ninth, while the final point went to Team India and Narain Karthikeyan.
