Third successive win for the R10
Audi secured their third successive victory in the American Le Mans Series, winning the Generac 500 at Road America
Just days after threatening to withdraw from the series after a dispute with organisers over rule breaks to major rivals, the diesel-powered R10s finished 1-2 at Elkhart lake with the No. 1 car of Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela beating the sister car of Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello.
It was a strong comeback for the No. 1 car, which had been forced off the road on the first lap after Biela collided with Dyson Racing's James Weaver.
But strong pit work enabled them to be back in contention to take the lead at a restart with 15 minutes to go.
The margin of victory was just 0.4 seconds - the closest in the five-year history of the race.
In LMP2, Timo Bernhard and Sascha Maassen earned the victory in their Penske-run Porsche, finishing fourth overall.
Corvette took GT1 honours, with Johnny O'Connell and Ron Fellows taking their first win in more than a year. They beat their sister car of Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin by more than a lap.
