Rain expected for London Trophy
The Champ Car teams visiting Brands Hatch for this weekend's London Trophy round of the Champ Car World Series are expecting wet weather to play a part in Monday's race, although most drivers are hoping to avoid that eventuality
According to double-pole winner Sebastien Bourdais, the weather for Saturday's practice and Sunday's qualifying may remain dry, but heavy rain is predicted for race day.
"I think it is going to be a really long race and it is probably going to rain so..." said Bourdais. "Saturday and Sunday the weather forecast is not that bad but on Monday it will be raining.
"I enjoy driving in the rain but on the other hand the rain tyres are very hard and the grip level is pretty bad. Also I have not driven the car in wet conditions. It doesn't rain very often where we normally race!"
Darren Manning, the only British driver in the field this weekend, also hopes that the track will remain dry during the race.
"I want it to dry really," he said, "because when it is wet it can be a bit of a lottery. If you're the last one to pass the chequered flag in qualifying and the track is drying you have an advantage, but if you're not... And in the race you're in the lap of the gods whether somebody can see you or not. So dry makes it a bit more of a level playing field and safer.
"If it's like today (Friday), where there is a real storm and then it stops, we'll clear the water in two or three laps anyway and then we can get down to racing. I don't mind that at all."
