Jensen Considering Their Options
Champ Car team Jensen Motorsport is looking into their driver options ahead of the next round of the series after driver Fabrizio del Monte struggled in the opening round at Long Beach
Del Monte finished last and was seven laps down on race winner Sebastien Bourdais. The first practice session was the first time he had sat in the car, and the Italian struggled throughout the weekend.
Despite placing second in the opening round of Italian Formula 3000 on his return home, Jensen are weighing up their options for the next round in Monterrey, and one name that has arisen as a potential fill in driver is ex-Champ Car driver Christian Fittipaldi.
"I am concerned by the team's competitiveness at Long Beach," team boss Eric Jensen told Autosport, "and it may be that a more experienced driver means the team will be closer to the front at Monterrey, and one good option is Christian."
Fittipaldi is currently racing in Brazilian Stock Cars and Grand Am in his native Brazil. When contacted regarding a potential drive he noted: "I have heard from no Champ Car teams recently, but if the conditions were right I'd love to do it.
"I wouldn't be able to do a whole season, because I have made other commitments, but when the calendar allowing I would be interested."
Other options open to Jensen include former Champ Car driver Rodolfo Lavin, who drove last year with support from Mexican brewers Corona, and ex-Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, who has not been able to find a drive this year.
