Bourdais feels wins aren't essential
Sebastien Bourdais has admitted that it is more important for him to aim for consistent top-five finishes rather than going all-out for victories
The reigning Champ Car champion currently holds a narrow lead in the standings over Robert Doornbos, despite the fact that he has won four races to the Dutchman's two.
Bourdais has retired from three races this year, and despite never winning at Road America, he has said that he is going to approach the race at Elkhart Lake like any other.
"It's a little frustrating from time to time," said Bourdais. "We've had some pretty good showings at Road American but we haven't been able to put it together and win.
"For the championship, a win there would be just like any other win. The most important thing for us is to just put the car up front and have a good finish - in the top five if possible."
While Bourdais has struggled for consistency, Doornbos has finished every race this season, and Bourdais has said that his primary focus will be to score points consistently in the remaining races.
"It's what we're going to need to focus on for the rest of the season and hopefully if we can do that we should be in pretty good shape for the championship," said the Frenchman.
Bourdais has never been off the podium at Road America on his three previous visits. He has a best finish of second, while he has finished third twice.
