Breen signs for Carlin

Carlin Motorsport have announced that Niall Breen will join the team in British Formula Three this year

The 20-year-old moves into F3 as the reigning Formula BMW UK champion, and he believes that the team will be as strong as ever in 2007 due to their switch to Mercedes engines.

"Carlin has a fantastic track record," he said, "and the Mercedes engine will make the team an even stronger force this year. I'm really looking forward to my first season in F3."

Breen has already tested with the team as his prize for winning the Formula BMW championship, and he believes that by the start of the season he will have adapted to the extra power of the car.

"My test with Carlin in December went really well and I was very impressed with the team then," he said.

"I've got 12 days testing before the season starts, so by the first race at Oulton Park I should be comfortable with the car."

Breen took nine wins on his way to the Formula BMW title, and his new team boss Trevor Carlin is confident that he can perform well in F3.

Carlin said: "Niall has shown he is an extremely talented driver and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team.

"His performance in Formula BMW last year was outstanding and I'm sure he will carry the same level of ability and determination into F3."

Breen joins Sam Bird and Mario Moraes in the Carlin line-up for 2007.
