Testing Concludes at Mugello

Formula One testing at the Mugello circuit came to an end today, concluding the teams' preparation for the United States Grand Prix next week.

Formula One testing at the Mugello circuit came to an end today, concluding the teams' preparation for the United States Grand Prix next week.

After not testing on Thursday due to the funeral of Paolo Gislimberti, the fire marshal who was killed during the Italian Grand Prix last Sunday, McLaren, Ferrari and Sauber continued working today at the Italian track.

Olivier Panis, McLaren's test driver, was fastest during the third day too, setting a best time of 1:24.104, and completing a total of 84 laps.

Michael Schumacher set the second fastest time of the day, 1:25.323. Despite being more than a second slower than Panis, the German was pleased with the way the session ended.

"I am happy with the way testing went," said Schumacher. "We will arrive in the USA well prepared, having tried various scenarios which we could encounter next week. I can't say much about the Indianapolis circuit."

The Sauber team continued testing with 20-year old Finn Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel. The Formula Renault driver was third fastest, with a best lap of 1:27.460.
