Schumacher Thanks Ferrari Test Team

World Champion Michael Schumacher admitted he was delighted after scoring Ferrari's 150th Formula One win, and the German thanked the Italian's test team for their work developing the winning F2002.

World Champion Michael Schumacher admitted he was delighted after scoring Ferrari's 150th Formula One win, and the German thanked the Italian's test team for their work developing the winning F2002.

"I am very happy with this result and the package we had today," said Schumacher after winning Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix, his 40th victory with the Italian squad. "Ferrari's 150th win is very special and I take this opportunity to thank our test team.

"They are always in the background and I am very happy to have these guys behind me. All of them, Luca Badoer, Luciano Burti and all the engineers and mechanics do a fantastic job."

Schumacher has won six out of eight races this season, five of the team with the Bridgestone-shod F2002 that made its debut in the third race of the year.

On Sunday, the German admitted he benefitted from the entry of the Safety Car and from Juan Pablo Montoya's retirement, but like his teammate Rubens Barrichello, Schumacher was critical of the stewards' decision to deploy the Safety Car.

"The Safety Car worked in my favour, even if I don't understand why they had to use it," he said. "I kept a good pace as we knew Montoya was on a two stop, but I could not ease up until I knew I would be in front of him after his second stop.

"The engine was very strong and gave us good straight line speed. In the final laps I slowed down to save the car and brakes."
