Sauber Duo Unhappy with Qualifying Performance

German Nick Heidfeld was disappointed with his performance in first qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.

German Nick Heidfeld was disappointed with his performance in first qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Like at the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago, the Sauber driver continued to struggle with the balance of his Petronas-powered C22. After a difficult practice session, Heidfeld managed to improve his car's handling for qualifying, but finished down in 12th position.

"In the morning I was struggling with oversteer and the car didn't feel good," admitted Heidfeld. "We made some changes for the qualifying which improved the balance of the car a bit. I am not satisfied with my position, but I'm a bit happier than I was in Barcelona."

Heidfeld's teammate Heinz-Harald Frentzen, also unhappy with his car, completed a tough day for the Hinwil-based outfit, posting the 15th fastest time.

"As I did this morning, this afternoon I had problems with the very low level of grip on the track and the car was very nervous," said Frentzen. "I wasn't able to attack. Now we need to analyse the data and find the reasons for this. I'm sure there is room for improvements."
