Montoya calls for ruling

Williams drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher have called for rule clarifications following their respective incidents in the San Marino Grand Prix

Speaking in Barcelona, ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, Montoya said: "I'm going to go and speak to Charlie Whiting [the FIA's race director] today. How can you have a one-move rule in Formula 1 and then have Michael Schumacher move left and then right and do nothing about it? That's two moves."

Montoya's gripe is not specifically the incident at Tosa, where he ended up on the grass, but the lead up to it. He claims that he got a run on Schumacher's Ferrari out of the previous chicane and that Schumacher moved left to block him.

Montoya wants clarification as to whether Schumacher was then within his rights to move back to the right. The German would call it taking up his racing line for the following corner, Montoya would call it an illegal second move.

Ralf Schumacher, meanwhile, said of his team-mate: "I think Montoya should stop whingeing about it and focus on his driving. It's unrealistic to criticise Michael and then do what he did to me." Montoya moved his team-mate over onto the grass as Schumacher Jr attempted to take advantage of the Colombian's contact with the Ferrari team leader.

Schumacher Jr was later spun out of fourth place by Fernando Alonso and said: "I had to go to see the stewards after the race and they said to me that if he's alongside, then you've got to give him room. But how far alongside is alongside? I want clarification on that too."
