Alonso Aims to Continue Scoring Streak

Fernando Alonso is hoping to continue Renault's record of scoring a double points finish in every race this season with another starring performance in his home Spanish Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso is hoping to continue Renault's record of scoring a double points finish in every race this season with another starring performance in his home Spanish Grand Prix.

Alonso produced a high-quality drive at the Circuit de Catalunya 12 months ago to take second place in front of his home crowd and he admits "dreaming" of a repeat performance in this weekend's race.

Renault are in second place in the Constructors' Championship behind Ferrari after four races thanks to Alonso and teammate Jarno Trulli bringing home points in all of the Grands Prix, and the 22-year-old Spaniard wants that run to continue.

"I think the first four races were good for us, especially for the team," Alonso said. "Both drivers have scored points in all the races, we are second in the Constructors' Championship and we are quite pleased with the season.

"The important thing for us is to get points and finish the races and to get experience with our new engine and that is what we are doing at the moment. Maybe the last half of the season is the time to push a little bit more, but now I hope to keep this level up and to finish all the races - that is the only way to score points and to go up in the Championship."

On returning to Barcelona, he added: "I have good memories from last year. It was a good race. The car was fantastic here, and I really hope to have the same car, competitive here all the weekend, and I will have a chance.

"From my side I will do 200 percent for this race because a lot of people have come to support me. I like the track, I like to race here, it is my home Grand Prix and, for sure, to do something like last year is for me a dream now on Thursday."

But Alonso accepts that the impressive recent displays by the BAR-Honda team underline the difficulty of Renault's task to hold onto second place, with Williams-BMW also candidates for second overall behind Ferrari.

"The last three races we were not even the second team on the grid, so we have to push a little bit more to catch and to close that gap and try to be in front of BAR and Williams," he said. "It is not easy at all, and, you know, we have a long season to go and we have good room to improve."
